Sheikh Rashid was the eldest son of the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed, and his senior wife, Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum. He was also the elder brother of Dubai’s heir apparent, crown prince, Sheikh Hamdan.
